Pandas

Why do I like pandas?
They are so freaking cute. I let everyone know that pandas are my favorite thing in the whole world. I have a stuffed panda and I love it so much.

The real reason I like pandas?
The stuffed panda was given to me on my birthday, from someone who meant so much to me. And then there was one day where he was gone... my world had shattered, like a baseball going through a window. I miss him. I miss his hugs. When he put his arms around me, a house would start to build. Wherever we were, and whenever, he built a safe place for me to cry, smile, be angry, laugh, but most importantly, to be me. At the end of the day, I sleep with the stuffed panda and dream of what could have been.

This is what I tell myself in the morning. Everyday.

I refuse to be defined by my past, the size of my jeans, the number on a scale, or the opinions of others. I am an amazing, unique, and worthwhile person just as I am, here, now as I stand before you today. I am a work in progress; ever growing, ever changing, ever moving forward. I am an amazing individual worthy of respect, love and joy. My journey is no less important than your own. I do not seek your approval or permission to be who I choose to be. I am walking my own path at my own pace.
